The silver anklet
capital of India.
Salem, Tamil Nadu, has been making silver anklets for centuries. We manufacture here — and we export to the world.
The city the world buys anklets from.
Salem is not just where we are. It is why we exist. The city's silversmith tradition is the deepest in India for ankle jewellery — payal, kolusu, golusu — and its craftspeople are the most skilled.
Wholesale buyers from the Gulf, Malaysia, Singapore and Indian distributors come to Salem specifically for silver anklets. The concentration of skill, the supply of 92.5% silver and generations of pattern knowledge exist nowhere else at this scale.
We are manufacturers inside this ecosystem — which means our prices are not middlemen's prices and our lead times are production lead times, not reseller lead times.
How a payal is made.
Every anklet passes through the same sequence — wire drawing, link forming, assembly, polishing, hallmarking. That sequence is why Salem anklets hold their shape and their finish.
01Alloying & wire
Pure silver is alloyed to 92.5% and drawn into wire of the diameter the design requires. Done in-house to control purity from the first step.
02Link & form
Chains are formed link by link — twist, box, rope, figaro — and bell clusters are cast separately. Each link is closed by hand before the chain is assembled.
03Polish & finish
Buffing to a mirror finish, or oxidising for an antique patina. Stone settings are set after polishing. Each piece is inspected before hallmarking.
04BIS Hallmark
Every piece is submitted to a BIS-licensed assay centre. The hallmark — purity (925), assay centre mark and maker's mark — is stamped on the metal. No piece ships without it.
No traders. No middlemen. Just us.
When you enquire with Salem Silver Palace, you are talking to the workshop. The quote is the maker's quote. The lead time is the production time.
This matters most at scale. For a buyer placing 500 pairs a month, the difference between a manufacturer price and a trader price is significant. And because you deal direct, you can specify weight, finish and pattern to the people who execute it.
